Sterile Processing Tech (Full-Time) - STERILE PROCESSING

Job Summary:
- Insures proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis.
- Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of the day shift. Records results in appropriate log.
- Inspects gas and steam autoclaves for visible signs of malfunction and reports to the Surgical Services Director.
- Processes or oversees all contaminated instruments and supplies returned to Sterile Processing.
- Uses knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization.
- Processes all items appropriately using steam sterilization.
- Maintains appropriate spore testing on routine basis and documents results as required.
- Assists with processing department supply charges and any other clerical work related to the Sterile Processing Department as requested.
- Works closely with the Surgical Services Director and assists with training and in-service for new personnel.
- Able to work closely with others in positive ways.
- Applies aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Performs general cleaning or department surface areas, racks, shelves, storage cabinets and all storage areas.
- Stores all supplies and equipment, stock Sterile Processing’s dispensing racks.
- Maintains equipment register board.
- Knowledgeable regarding handling and care of instruments, tray preparation and special procedure items.
- Performs tray assemblage, proper packaging and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization. Monitors sterility dates on supplies.
- Properly loads, operates and cleans all sterilizers, gas and steam, and all general equipment using biological and chemical control tests as required by department.
- Maintains preventative maintenance procedures and control procedure on electrical heating and cooling units. Completes repair orders for Facility Management for any unit found inoperable.
- Receives and delivers surgical supplies and fill requisition requests.
- Assists with monitoring and maintaining stock in storeroom.
- Restocks nursing supply carts and send list of supplies needed for restocking to purchasing.
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
- Orders warehouse stock as needed.
- Responsible for stocking all supply carts on the nursing units.
Skill/Education Requirements:
- Sterile Processing Technician certification within 6-9 months of hire required.
- Graduate of high school or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one year experience as Sterile Processing Technician (preferred)
