Chief Financial Officer or Controller - Administration or Accounting

Job Title: CFO or Controller
Compensation: Wage will be based on qualifications and experience.
Support Staff: This position will be supported by two full-time team members — (1) Accounts Payable Clerk and (1) Accountant.

Job Summary (CFO):
- Participates in the facility’s long-term and short-term financial process including the development of policies to help control financial activities (internal controls) and meet the financial objectives of the organization.
- Directs and participates in the development of accounting, admission, credit/collection and internal control policies and systems and addresses related policy/system issues.
- Coordinates and controls the facility’s cash and investment management activities.
- Provides advice and guidance as necessary in preparing and analyzing financial reports and executing appropriate responsive actions.
- Assists in evaluating the adequacy of the hospital’s insurance coverage and in handling special/sensitive cases or problems and providing advice and guidance as necessary in preparing and analyzing risk management and insurance reports and appropriate executive responsive actions.
- Coordinates and controls the facility’s short-term cash activities in accordance with established financial policies and objectives.
- Evaluates data processing needs on an ongoing basis and adapts programs to changing needs.
- Directs the hospital’s banks in executing cash management decisions and works with the appropriate investment managers in coordinating fund transfers and monitoring investment performance.
- Recommends appropriate actions and strategies to respond to projected economic trends and/or regulatory changes.
- Participates in the analysis of the financial implications of proposed capital projects and expenditures and recommends the execution of appropriate measures to respond to projected economic trends and/or regulatory changes.
- Provides advice and assistance to department heads and managers in analyzing and interpreting financial data and reports and in presenting that information to their departments, the Senior Management Team, physician groups and the Board.

Skill/Education Requirements (CFO):
- Must have thorough knowledge of accounting, finance, reimbursement, budgeting, credit and collection as relates to healthcare.
- A degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- Requires 3 - 5 years of prior management experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Job Summary (Controller):
- Monitors financial activities of the organization.
- Manages revenue cycle managers and 3 accounting staff employees. Revenue cycle managers managed include Revenue Integrity Supervisor, HIM Director, Patient Access Director, Billing Manager and Case Manager
- Establishes, or recommends to management, major economic objectives and policies for company.
- Manages (owns) the monthly closing of financial activities including making journal entries to the General Ledger, ensuring subsidiary ledgers (AP, Payroll, Materials) are properly posted to the General Ledger, calculating and posting needed accruals, reviewing account balances and explaining significant variances and ensuring all Financial Statements are properly prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Policies.
- Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activities and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present and expected operations.
- Directs preparation of budgets.
- Supports and drives the proper functioning of the organization’s revenue cycle process through interactions with revenue cycle managers and the oversight of the function including planning, measurements against objectives and course correction when needed.
- Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.
- Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions.
- Arranges for audits of company’s accounts

Skill/Education Requirements (Controller):
- Accounting Degree required.
- Highly developed organizational skills.
- Recent financial/accounting and revenue cycle management experience in the hospital field.
