Unit Secretary/ Quality Tech-Med Surg - Medical Surgical Department

Job Summary
Provides direct and indirect patient care in the M/S setting, consistent with the units standards of care.
Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff.
Demonstrates basic computer knowledge.
Prepares and compiles records in the M/S unit.
Initiates directions from physicians and nursing staff. *Participates in quality improvement activities. *Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and facility policies, procedures and standards.
Demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the unit and organization; remains flexible to changing systems; Demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits; Treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.
Reviews data collected by other unit secretaries/quality techs for accuracy to determine if additional training is required. Reports problems to unit director if repeated errors occur.
Collaborates with the Unit Director to set up tracking for documentation and monitoring of quality improvement projects. Provides summaries and reports of tracking.
Identifies problems on the unit and recommends solutions.
Trains all new staff of unit in use of Kronos
Operates in backup capacity to the Unit Director for Kronos and scheduling including completion of payroll.
Collects statistics for regulatory requirements such as restraints, falls and other department or multi-department measures as needed.
Participates in committees for performance improvement and assists in implementation of measures to change and educate staff activities and documentation. (example COPD education to prevent readmissions- ongoing monitoring)

Skills/Educational Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
BLS certificate
